This grant was established in memory of Piet Been, chairman from 2006 to 2014. In his working life Piet was a general practitioner and active with various charities. During TPF's formative years, the board could rely on Piet's positive energy and experience to develop the organisation.  

The grant is intended to support young people struggling to find the means to pursue a degree in medicine. It is awarded once a year to recipients selected by the grant committee.
